Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Melvin P. Thorpe's 'The Mystery of the Golden Fish' (Book 3) follows Melvin and his friends as they try to solve the puzzle of missing koi fish from their backyard pond. Set in a small New England town just before school starts, the children's detective adventure teaches teamwork, critical thinking, and empathy for nature as Melvin unravels his very first real-life mystery involving his sister Myra's beloved pet koi and the surprising true 'thief.'Plot IntroductionMelvin, a curious and thoughtful boy, notices his sister Myra's favorite koi fish is missing just as fall approaches, sparking concern for the pond they built together. Enlisting the help of Buddy the beagle and neighborhood friends, Melvin tries to discover what happened to the missing golden fish as the group struggles to balance play and solving their first mystery. The InvestigationThe children suspect various suspects, including helpful neighbors and even local bullies, but each hunch leads to dead ends. In their eagerness, the friends nearly accuse innocent adults, only to learn a lesson about gathering real evidence and resisting quick judgment. Melvin's parents encourage logical, step-by-step investigation instead of jumping to conclusions, guiding Melvin to carefully review the facts of the case. The Stakeout and RevelationAs their stakeout unravels, the friends realize more fish are missing even as they watch the prime suspects, proving nobody is to blame, at least, no human. After piecing clues, Melvin discovers the real culprit is the mother sandhill crane, Cecil, who secretly began feeding her chicks with the kids' cherished koi. Rather than feeling angry, the children come to appreciate nature's balance and decide to protect the remaining fish while watching the newborn 'colts' (baby cranes) with wonder.Themes and ResolutionThe book gently explores the value of observation, kindness, bravery, and responsibility. By working together and learning not to leap to conclusions, Melvin and his friends restore their friendship and bond with Myra, witness the wonders of animal parenthood, and even celebrate a new batch of baby koi the following spring. This beginner chapter book features heartfelt family moments, a relatable core mystery for young readers, and strong positive messages about nature, teamwork, and empathy. Why kids (and parents) love Melvin P.
