Punischen Krieg, gibt es von Romern verfasste Geschichtsschreibung mit Rom als Hauptgegenstand. Sie speist sich vor allem aus zwei Q…uellen, dem Traditionsbewusstsein und -bemuhen in den Familien der Fuhrungsschicht Roms, also der Senatorenschaft, und aus der kulturellen, insbesondere literarischen Hellenisierung der Romer. Im vorliegenden Buch werden Entwicklungen der romischen Geschichtsschreibung bis in die christliche Spatantike dargelegt. Dabei werden aus der Uberzeugung heraus, dass romische Historiographie vor allem durch den gemeinsamen Gegenstand Rom zu definieren ist, fur die romische Kaiserzeit griechischsprachige Autoren aus dem Osten des Mittelmeerraums einbezogen, vor allem soweit in ihren Werken Rom bzw. das Romische Reich thematisiert ist. Dieses Vorgehen lasst erkennen, dass das Geschichtsdenken im Romischen Reich weniger von der sprachlichen Heimat eines Autors als von seiner Zugehorigkeit zur Fuhrungsschicht des Reiches bestimmt worden ist.
