Hardcover, bound in pictorial tan cloth, titled in gilt and elaborately illustrated and decorated in black & red on the front cover & the spine. The covers are bumped, rubbed and soiled and the spine darkened. The book is cocked. xii, 265 & [6] pages, illustrated with a pictorial red & black title page, 19 full-page illustrations and profuse textual illustrations by H.W. McVickar. A previous owner's name is penned on the verso of the frontispiece. The front edges of the first few pages are lightly dampstained. Good. First edition.

Couple names on front endpaper and a couple book seller stamps.We could find no other soft cover versions which has a quite different cover illustrations. Front and back the same and rear is in very good condition. 32 pages with color illustrations are in very good condition.

Full page chromolithographic illustrations, most with printed tissue guards (note: a couple do not have tissue guards but they don't appear to have been removed). Publisher's full black silk decorated in gilt over boards. Small tears and slight erosion of silk along the edge of the spine, a very good copy. A very handsome satiric look at New York High Society.
