Published by Archibald Constable and Co. in 1895.In the publisher's original half green, half tan cloth. Contains all one hundred intricately illustrated plates by A.D. M'Cormick, including a frontispiece of explorers trekking the Alps. Collated complete.A seasoned traveller, Conway undertook expeditions in for the Royal Geographical Society to mountain ranges such as to the subsidiary summit of Balgot Kangri in Pakistan, as well as later winning the society's 1905 founder's medal for exploring the arctic archipelago Spitsbergen. This particular book, detailing his expedition of the Alps from west to east, is a favourite range of his, being both president of the Alpine Club from 1902-1904, and was the first ever president of the Alpine Ski club in 1908. In the publisher's original half green, half tan cloth. Externally, smart with the odd small mark. Fading to the front board, spine and top edge of rear board. Slight bumping to the head and tail of the spine, and to the extremities. Mild spotting to end papers. Previous owner's gift inscription to front free end paper. Internally, firmly bound.
