Fowler also worked as a screenwriter for several years, penning a dozen screenplays in the 1930s and early 1940s, including "What Price Hollywood?" (1932), "The Call of the Wild" (1935), and "Billy the Kid" (1941), and also collaborated with Ben Hecht on the 1932 Broadway play "The Great Magoo."
