Zustand: as new. New York : Rizzoli, 2018. Hardcover. 216 pp. Ills. 23x30 cm. English text. - Ryan McGinley, since the earliest days of his unparalleled career, has chronicled his friends and cohorts. Whether on the now legendary annual road trips he has organised with a large coterie of twenty-somethings documenting summertime exploits or documenting the early gritty years in downtown New York, McGinley is known as the consummate storyteller about freedom and abandon of youth. A few years ago, however, he wanted to challenge his creative habits and asked more than one hundred of his friends and colleagues - guided by detailed instructions and a camera given to them by the artist - to take nude self-portraits using mirrors and other props. Though related to the ubiquitous selfie, the participants didn't have the benefit of seeing the image before they clicked the shutter. Furthermore, McGinley would make the selection of the final image to represent the photo session. The experiment yielded scores of intimate and psychologically revealing photos that - even though not done by his own hand - bear some signature McGinley flourishes in their emotional depth and resonance. Ryan McGinley, one of the most important photographers of his generation, asks his friends and colleagues to take the camera into their own hands. Following instructions given to them by the artist, a group of individuals explore their own image. Condition : as new copy. ISBN 9780847863471. Keywords : PHOTOGRAPHY,

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Yearbook represents a decade's worth of Ryan McGinley's nude studio portraits documenting his vibrant community of artists and creatives. An exploration of personal identity and expanded notions of beauty, this is McGinley's work at its most powerful.Known for his outdoor photography of young people cavorting in the nude, McGinley ventures into the artist's studio, creating more intimate portraits of his models in Yearbook. Continuing the approach of previous bodies of work, his sitters are often friends, and they exude a candid awareness of the camera, creating joyful, dynamic images. As a master chronicler of downtown New York City for two decades, McGinley captures the lives of his diverse subjects, earning acclaim as the voice of his generation and indelibly capturing the contemporary zeitgeist. The book features brief interviews with many of the models discussing their lives and work, providing an even more thoughtful understanding of the quixotic generations known as Gen Z and Millennials.

166 pp.; 23.5 x 28 cm.; glue bound; black-and-white & color; edition size 500; unsigned and unnumbered; offset-printed "This book brings together new texts written to accompany 79 exhibitions organized by Bob Nickas between 1984 and 2011. Nickas chose one work to represent the memory of each exhibition, and through this visual "lens" he reflects on his activity as a curator, offering many behind-the-scenes views to the art world of the 1980s and 90s, as well as intimate recollections of the artists he worked with, and the art works he encountered over the years. The book, then, can be seen as a sort of memoir. Always placing the artists and their works within a social milieu, while also aware of how art travels across time, he reminds us that both lead multiple lives, as an exhibition can reanimate a work from the past, and occasion the discovery of forgotten and marginalized figures among those who are very well-known. This retrospective catalog is also in many ways an ideal exhibition -- or collection -- 27 years in the making." -- publisher''s statement. In den WarenkorbCard covers, stapled spine. Zustand: Very good. 15 x 21cm 40pp very good card-covered publication. Work by the American photographer Ryan McGinley showing his colourful and vivid photographs which are said to capture the zeitgeist of a generation like no other. Celebrating the sweet and fleeting state of youth, his images are suffused with colour, light and energy. Naked kids climbing trees, running through the desert, rolling down hills, suspended in the air, diving into lakes, leaping through fireworks there s a lightness and carelessness and beauty to McGinley s images that is utterly addictive.
