Softcover. Zustand: As New. Leichte Kratzer / Abnutzungen / Druckstellen. What role does consumption play in Japanese lives that are more than study, work, and shopping? How have those lives changed since World War II as Japan has wrestled with the meaning of white-collar careers, increasing independence for women, changing family values, a shrinking birth rate, and an aging population? Japan's first think tank devoted to the study of consumer behaviour was created to answer these questions. In this book, an anthropologist reads its research, exploring Japan through the eyes of Japanese researchers and discovering patterns of change that are both uniquely Japanese and shared by consumers in other advanced industrial nations.

In den WarenkorbIllustrated with wood engravings by Henry Hole after John Thurston.Title-page a bit dusty. Modern quarter buckram with gilt spine titling, Cockerell marbled paper-covered boards. A very good copy indeed. A remarkable piece of fine printing, done with the types of William Martin (brother to Robert Martin, apprentice to John Baskerville). In the introduction, mention is not only made of the type and wood-engravings, but of the long and troblesome time making up an ink of "richness and warmth of colouring". Bigmore & Wyman are effusive in their praise.

In den Warenkorb4to, pp. [iv], vii, [iii], 29, [1] blank, 18, [2] descriptive references to the engravings; with the frontispiece bound immediately before the first page of text instead of opposite the title page; some foxing (as usual) but withal a very good, clean copy in later 19th century half morocco, spine gilt, upper cover detached. First edition of this poem by John McCreery (1768-1832). It is dedicated to William Roscoe and commences with an address to the ghost of Johann Gutenberg; it is finely printed with Baskerville press types designed by William Martin, and illustrated by Henry Hole. McCreery went to London shortly afterwards, where he met Dibdin and printed his Bibliomania (1809). A second part was published many years later (1827) and is sometimes found with it, suggesting that copies of the original were still available some 24 years later. Jackson p. 273; Johnson, Provincial Poetry, 565; Updike II 124; Bigmore & Wyman 8.
