La scena mostra i fatti d'armi che avvennero a Rimini, per la precisione a Celle fuori porta Bologna, nella battaglia che vide contrapposte le forze dei volontari delle Province Unite Italiane, guidate da Carlo Zucchi, e le truppe austriache, guidate dal maresciallo Bentheim, che avevano oltrepassato i confini dell'impero per reprimere la rivolta della popolazione delle legazioni di Ravenna, Forlì, Bologna e Ferrara contro il potere pontificio. Questo fatto viene ricordato per essere il primo scontro militare tra truppe solamente italiane contro un esercito straniero. Il valore politico di questi avvenimenti venne propagandato in Europa da Giuseppe Mazzioni, il quale a quel tempo si trovava esule in Francia, lo descrisse ed esaltò nella sua prima opera politica "Una notte di Rimini nel 1831" in cui esaltava il suo programma di Unità, Indipendenza e Repubblica. Stato di conservazione molto buono, ampi margini, strappo professinalmente restaurato nella parte destra senza fastidio.
