In den WarenkorbHardcover. 8vo. pp. lviii, 328, [iv]. 16pp. Purple publisher's boards, lettered white on spine as per title page and "The Literature of Cinema" to front cover. Black and white illustrations throughout. From the library of the author J. P. Mayer (1903 1992) with his blind-stamp on front endpaper. He was Professor Emeritus at Reading University and author of books on De Tocqueville, Max Weber and French political thought. He fled to England in 1936 having been a leading figure in the anti-Nazi movement in Germany. He then worked for Britain in the Ministry of Economic Warfare. Loosely inserted remains of upper cover from the 1946 edition which includes T. S. Eliot's blurb on the fly leaf in which he begins by saying that the book 'represents a piece of pioneer work on the most serious of film problems' and towards the end he states that 'This book ought to be read and seriously pondered'. Loosely inserted Peter du Sautoy's compliments slip with handwritten message saying 'Letter sent separately'. Peter du Sautoy 'the last of the gentleman publishers' and Eliot were fellow directors at Faber and Faber. Someone has written Eliot's name at the bottom of the blurb, probably de Sautoy. Spine a little faded, occasional marks to lower edge of upper cover. Top edge a little dusty. Despite light wear very good copy.
