Hardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good. First edition. Ex-library with a large memorial bookplate (donated in memory of the recipient) else near fine with the board edges a bit sunned and a tiny shallow abraded spot on the half-title. In two dust jackets: the outer jacket is very good with a couple of short chips and creased tears; the inner jacket (inscribed on the verso) is good only with a sunned spine, a couple of splits and creased tears, and the lower shoulder completely separated. The book has been Inscribed: "for Paul with deep and sincere affection Max. New York City, Aug. 1, 1964." On the verso of the inner jacket, also in green ink but seemingly in a different hand, is written in large letters: "Publication Party! august 12 - 6-8 PM / 263 W 12 St / The Howells, the Whaleys, Bill Wahl." An intriguing copy of this successful novel, which Carson McCullers called "a skillful tale of terror.".
