Hardcover, with dust jacket. 329 pages. Text in several languages. As new. This monograph (in Dutch and English) on Hans van Houwelingen (Harlingen, 1957) is as provocative in content as it is attractive in design. The well-written texts, including some by the artist himself, are supported by many illustrations, letters and newspaper articles. They offer different perspectives on the nature and meaning of his work, which focuses on art in public space, covering the last decade. Many books appear on this theme, but this one differs above all in its firm grounding in Dutch urban planning traditions and its pragmatic approach. Van Houwelingen, who besides sculptures also makes films and stained-glass windows, is not only critical but also offers compelling alternatives for problematic spaces such as the city centre of Lelystad. He does not shy away from social and political bottlenecks, which is why he provokes debate - exactly his intention, as he wants to place art at the heart of society. 777g.…

Zustand: Good. This is a book that is not a book. It is just an object trying to escape a world full of objects, maybe becoming alive in a world full of life. It is a learning book. Not an educational one, not for you to learn anything from it, but to learn itself. Nobody knows why it wants to learn, but why should we? It didn?t ask us to be published either. We put my name on it and you can squeeze it, not functional at all. Actually, it wanted to be a website, it didn?t succeed ?yet.; Still sealed.…

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - An extraordinary account of the decades-long career of the Netherlands' leading graphic designer, illustrated with over 1,100 imagesGert Dumbar (1940) is one of the most influential--and colorful--graphic designers from the postwar design field, both in the Netherlands and abroad. As a young partner in Tel Design, he designed one of the most iconic symbols in the Dutch public domain--the logo for the Dutch National Railways. Since then, he has opened his very own Studio Dumbar, working on a wide range of projects for an enormously varied clientele, from avant-garde theaters to the central government, from hospitals to multinationals. Gert Dumbar: Maverick Gentleman of Dutch Design considers this fabulously versatile oeuvre in its time and context and examines the various roles Dumbar played: artist, provocateur, 'design director,' student, teacher, cultural initiator and mediator. An abundance of sketches from the studio's archives are included in the book, providing insight into Dumbar's process and his gift for engaging talented young designers.…
