Er stammte aus einer russisch-jüdischen Familie, die lange in Frankreich gelebt hatte. Weil er akzentfrei Französisch sprach, warb ihn der Geheimdienst für eine neue Spezialeinheit an, die Special Operations Executive (SOE).Im Untergrund baute Maurice Pertschuk ab 1942 im südfranzösischen Toulouse ein Widerstandsnetzwerk auf. Er organisierte Flugblattaktionen, Sabotageakte und Waffenlieferungen aus England. Im April 1943 wurde er verhaftet und im Januar 1944 nach Buchenwald gebracht. Seine wahre Identität hatte er verheimlichen können. Im Lager galt er als britischer Student. Erst kurz vor der Befreiung gelang es den deutschen Behörden, ihn als Agenten zu enttarnen. Am 29. März 1945 ermordete die SS den 23-jährigen Maurice Pertschuk im Krematorium von Buchenwald.
