Dopo aver passato in rassegna le varie età dell'uomo, l'autore precisa che l'inesorabile trascorrere del tempo, con l'invecchiamento e la decadenza che esso comporta, non riguarda soltanto la vita umana, ma si estende anche alla storia del mondo. Il tempo dunque è un bene prezioso che i ragazzi devono impiegare bene.
