In good internal condition, on aged paper; detached from the worn leather binding, and with the front free endpaper (bearing the title) loose. Label pasted to front cover reads: 'Accounts | G. B. R. | Charlton | Woolwich | Leicestershire | 1797 to 1804'. The volume is the work of Wilson (who acquired the estates in 1798 on the death of his father) or of his land agent. Paginated by the writer to 64, and with the accounts for 'Land Tax paid and allowed' on pp.1-7, for 'Cash paid & allowed for' on pp.11-23, and 'Cash paid & allowed for. | Sundries' on pp.25-40. The first section gives the sums allowed each term, with the names of four tenants: Jarvaise Cragg; Thomas Hawkes; Richard Gaston; Robert Baines). The second section gives sums and dates relating to repairs by named carpenter, plumbers, bricklayers and glaziers. For example, on 10 Janary 1799: 'Paid Mr. Richard Martyn the Ball[anc]e. due to him on his Bills for rebuilding the East side of the Wharf and repairing Colo. Congreve's House at Charlton 177. 3. 9 [i.e. £177 3s 9d]'. The last section includes entries for coach and chaise hire, postage. On 18 October 1798 the author claims ten guineas for 'My time and trouble going to Burton to see the Estates and making inquiries and observat[ion]s. attending and consulting several people at Leicester Loughbro [i.e. Loughborough] and other places and in part[icu]lar Mr. T. of Leicester as to the Value and the means of improving the Estates &c'. On 26 January 1799 he purchases for £1 9s 0d 'a Wainscot Chest for Deeds and Papers of the Estate'. On 32 October 1800 he records £2 13s 11d 'By Cash rec[eive]d. from the Assurance Company, being a return of premium and duty upon Insurance of Houses in Warner Lane - Woolwich which were sold to the Board of Ordnance & at 1795'.

From the private library of Sir Thomas Maryon Wilson Bart, with his armorial coat of arms bookplate inside each volume. Scattered foxing to the end papers, small tear to the bottom of the title page of volume II, the front hinge to volume I has started to pull away, corners rubbed and turned-in, chipping of the paper covering the spines. The subscribers list accounts for 203 copies, so it is probable that no more than 250 copies were printed. Typed letter, dated 1966, tipped-in opposite the title page to volume I, concerning 'Anglo Saxon England and the Norman Conquest' by H. R. Lyon. Member of the P.B.F.A. KENT [Dover].
