J.G. Marwick, provost of Stromness on the Orkney Islands in Scotland, tells the story of the young sailor John Renton, kidnapped in San Francisco in 1868, then shipwrecked on an island of cannibals where he lived for 7 years before being rescued. In 1876 he returned to his hometown of Stromness, but returned to Queensland as a government agent. He was killed on Aoba Island on November 9, 1878. A near fine copy with light foxing to the textblock, of this fascinating account based on the words of John Renton himself. 6" - 9¾". book.
