Cloth. Zustand: Very Good. First edition. A beautifully illustrated collection of European travel volumes, including one first edition. Collection comprised of: (1924) A Wanderer in Florence, ill. by Harry Morley; (1924) A Wanderer in Venice, ill. by Harry Morley; (1925) A Wanderer in Holland, ill. by Herbert Marshall; (1925) A Wanderer in Paris, ill. by Walter Dexter; (1926) A Wanderer in Rome, ill. by Harry Morley - first edition. In the publisher's original coloured cloth bindings. Each work features map endpapers, followed by a colour frontispiece. Florence then contains fifteen further colour plates and thirty-eight black-and-white plates. Venice contains fifteen further colour plates and thirty-two black-and-white plates. Holland contains nineteen further colour plates and thirty-six black-and-white plates. Paris contains fourteen further colour plates and thirty-two black-and-white plates. Rome contains fifteen further colour plates and thirty-six black-and-white plates. Collated, complete. A Wanderer in Rome includes a tipped-in postcard of the Piazza Duomo in Pisa, detailling the writer's adventures in Italy, dated 1954, and also an additional photograph tipped in to page 179. A charming collection of five volumes in this European travel series from the English writer and editor Edward Verrall Lucas, who, as well as publishing prolifically throughout his lifetime, was a regular contributor to Punch and, from 1924, the chairman of Methuen and Co., who also published these volumes. In the publisher's original coloured cloth bindings. Bookplate of Ralph J. C. Lumley to front free endpaper of Florence and Venice and to the first page of Paris and Rome. Signed by the previous owner and dated, with the relevant location to each volume, presumably recording the dates the owner visited, to the first pages of Florence and Venice, to the third page of Paris and to the half title of Rome. Paris also contains a gift inscription tipped in. A Wanderer in Rome includes a tipped-in postcard of the Piazza Duomo in Pisa, detailling the writer's adventures in Italy, dated 1954, and also an additional photograph tipped in to page 179. The front free endpaper of Holland features a chip towards the top edge, repaired and reinforced. Externally, smart with slight bumping and rubbing, resulting in minor loss of cloth to the extremities, including light fraying and a few small tears to the spine heads and tails. The spines of Venice and Rome are noticeably sunned and the boards feature the occasional additional mark. Internally, generally firmly bound, with slight periodical weakness, mainly towards the centre of the volumes. Reasonably bright and clean with the odd spot, heavier to the first and last few pages. Light creasing to the first few pages of one or two of the volumes. Very Good. Harry Morley; Herbert Marshall; Walter Dexter (illustrator). book. …
