Hardback. Zustand: Fine. Slips collects together for the first time the full range of Mark Pirie's cricket poetry which started life as a 24-page booklet in 2008. Pirie's poems have been regularly published in The Cricket Society News Bulletin over the past decade. Here are poems on many facets of the beautiful game, ranging from tributes to players past and present, poetry notes on matches and tests, comments on the more social aspects of the game, imaginary fictions such as Outer Space cricket and more. 'The Cricket Society has always supported poetry along with cricket and it has been one of my pleasures as Editor of our Bulletin, published eight times a year, to frequently feature the poems of Mark Pirie. I cannot think of a modern poet whose work I and our members, enjoy more. I am delighted that he has now put together a comprehensive collection of his cricketing output (he also writes on other subjects) and slightly startled that he has asked me to write a Foreword. Put simply, if you love cricket and poetry you are bound to enjoy this collection. I love both and have found great enjoyment in Mark's poems which have been put together for you. Our summer game is fortunate to have found such a good and talented friend and chronicler in Mark Pirie.' - John Symons, from the Foreword. Signed by Author.

Booklet. Zustand: Fair. On January 21st 2009, coinciding with January 20th in the United States of America, over 40 musicians, poets, storytellers and dancers gathered in Wellington, Aotearoa/New Zealand to celebrate the inauguration of President Barack Hussein Obama, the first African American to be elected president of the United States of America. In Aotearoa/New Zealand, as in just about every corner of the world, people wanted to come together to celebrate this history-changing day. There was a perception, certainly a hope, that the politics of humankind had reached a new level, one not draped in the colours of duplicity and treachery, and that the significance of this event was not just for the United States of America but for the world. Artists from all over the world brought the gift of their talents in many forms. They put their endeavours on the winds of the world and sent them forward to President Barack Hussein Obama to speed him on his journey. His journey has become our journey. The following are a selection of the words that were spoken that night in Wellington, Aotearoa/New Zealand. The poets include L. E. Scott, Wanjiku Kiarie, Martin Sanderson and Mark Pirie among others. Signed. Cover is fairly worn with some small markings on the back page. 35 pages.
