Hall Ets co-authored this book with Aurora Labastida, the children's librarian of the Benjamin Franklin Library in Mexico City. The two women felt it was important to increase representation of children of color in literature, and to show Mexican children in cities and urban settings, rather than rural village settings in which most books depicted them. The book depicts the posadas, a nine-day celebration leading up to Christmas which reenacts the pilgrimmage of Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem. Ceci, the main character, is excited to participate in the celebration and her family is put in charge of hosting the first night of the posadas. A beautiful, heartwarming book which takes a stand for fair representation of children, in particular, Mexican children's lived experiences. Just a touch of bumping to the boards' top edges; jacket has a few small chips and a tear to its spine panel.
