Précurseur en cardiologie, Jules Etienne Marey (1830-1904) fut également un pionnier en biomécanique et l'inventeur du chronophotographe. Bon exemplaire de ce rare ouvrage, dont la figure de l'enregistrement du pouls a été enrichie à l'époque de commentaires manuscrits. "Marey's central significance for the development of physiology in France lies in his adoption and advocacy of two fundamental techniques in experimental physiology : graphical recording and cinematography". [ . ] "During the first decade of his research career (1857-1867) Marey applied the technique of graphical recording to the study of the mechanics and hydraulics of the circulatory system, the heart beat, respiration, and muscle contraction in general. He analyzed the circulatory and muscular systems in terms of the physical variables, elasticity, resistance, and tonicity. The book covers such topics as chronophotography, kinetics, dynamics, locomotion in humans from an artistic point of view, locomotion of quadrupeds, the flight of birds and insects, and microscopic chronophotography. Mai 1904 in Paris) war ein französischer Physiologe, Erfinder und Pionier der Fototechnik.Marey war ein Pionier der Kreislaufphysiologie, der Blutdruckmessung, der graphischen Aufzeichnungstechnik, der wissenschaftlichen Photographie, der Luftfahrt und der Kinematographie. Er war an der Klärung der grundlegenden Prinzipien der indirekten Blutdruckmessung und des Films maßgeblich beteiligt.
