Dorso del secondo volume con due piccoli rinforzi ai margini superiore ed inferiore, e dorso del terzo volume anticamente rinforzato con cartonci…no. Quarto volume intonso. Qualche macchiolina di foxing dovuta alla qualità della carta in alcune pagine e per il resto in buone condizioni di conservazione. Prima edizione non comune a trovarsi completa di questo importante studio di economia del celebre economista e uomo politico originario di Lugo di Romagna, Angelo Marescotti (Lugo, 24 febbraio 1815 - Bologna, 5 ottobre 1892). L'autore combatté nella prima guerra di indipendenza (1848) come volontario. Nel 1859, dopo la caduta del potere pontificio, fu segretario dell'Assemblea Nazionale delle Romagne. Economista, insegnò economia politica all'Università di Bologna a partire dallo stesso anno. Nel 1862 fu eletto deputato nel collegio della città natale. Marescotti fu una delle voci più autorevoli del pensiero economico-sociale italiano dell'ottocento. "Il M. amava definirsi un economista sperimentale e positivo, intendendo in tal modo prendere le distanze dalle due scuole dominanti, quella "collettivista" e quella "individualista". Di entrambe condannava il tentativo di ricercare le cause dei fenomeni economici, ricerca che egli riteneva non fosse campo degli scienziati bensì degli studiosi di metafisica, mentre occorreva procedere col metodo positivo dell'osservazione dei fatti.". Fu strenuo oppositore di ogni dottrina protezionistica. Quella qui presentata è una delle sue opere più celebri.
