Volume 2 in poor condition, disbound, several detached signatures to last 80pp, very brittle pages with missing fragments. Lacking all tables and maps. Toning to both volumes. First published in French in 1798. The expedition sailed around Cape Horn, visited the Marquesas Islands (discovering several islands), explored the coast of the Queen Charlotte Islands (Haida Gwaii), and continued to China before returning to France. The expedition aimed to trade for furs on the Northwest American coast. Fleurieu based the work primarily on the journal of Prosper Chanal, the second-in-command of the expedition, and on the notes of the ship's surgeon Claude Roblet. …
