Very good. Blank on verso. Wide clean margins. Size 16 x 11.5 Inches. This is a fascinating 1852 map of the French department of Haute-Vienne, France. Haute-Vienne is home to the commune of Limoge, which makes oak barrels used in the production of Cognac. This area is also quite famous for its porcelain (Limoge Porcelain) which they have makin since the 1700's. The map proper is surrounded by elaborate decorative engravings designed to illustrate both the natural beauty and trade richness of the land. There is a short textual history of the regions depicted on both the left and right sides of the map. Published by V. Levasseur in the 1852 edition of his Atlas National de la France Illustree. MAO PICTORIAL PORCELAIN STAND . . * This is an excellent example of the kind of small items that "Red Guards" ["Hong Wei Bing"] used as a desk decoration. It was issued during the Wenhua Da Geming period, when the Hong Wei Bing ["The Guards"] refused to stop their Cultural Revolution. The worship and loyalty to Mao continued for many years. . * The "Cultural Revolution" began in August 1966 and the official end of the movement began in February 1967. It took the PLA [People's Liberation Army] several months to enforce the political decision due to wild nature of the "Red Guard" youth movement to actually begin the halt of their unruly activities. By the summer of 1968 they were by and large defeated. After the summer some radical members tried to continue the "Cultural Revolution" but were forcibly stopped by the PLA. A substantial number of "Red Guards" were actually killed in Guanxi and other provinces, making a stain on Chinese modern history. . * RESPECT, HONOR AND LOYALTY TO CHAIRMAN MAO: During the "Cultural Revolutionary" period, the "Red Guards" ["Hong Wei Bing"] and their large number of supporters created a good number of porcelain items to honor, respect and show above all "Loyalty" to Chairman Mao. Using the traditional Blanc d'Chine [white porcelain] workers made vases, plates, desk stands, tea sets and a host of other fascinating items adorned with Mao's likeness and his sayings. .
