Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good. 1st Edition. THE SEA WAR IN KOREA BY COMMANDERS CAGLE & MANSON 1957 NAVAL INSTITUTE 1ST DJ. I quote from the flap of the dust jacket: The Sea War in Korea is the first complete analysis from a naval point of view of the operational problems and lessons of the war. It is more than that, however. An exciting and sympathetic narrative, it portrays also individuals at war their courage, ingenuity, and humor in surmounting hardship and frustration. Please find then: The Sea War in Korea, by Commander Malcolm W. Cagle and Commander Frank A. Manson, U.S. Navy. This large hard cover book (6 ½ x 10 ½ inches, 556 pages) was published by the U.S. Naval Institute of Annapolis, Maryland, dated 1957 and I believe, it is a First Edition. The book is bound in sea blue buckram with white titles on cover and spine and protected by a printed paper dust jacket. The book is very well illustrated with a series of b&w photo sections (16 sections each of four pages each) appearing at varying intervals within the book as well as about 25 charts within the text and decorated endpapers. Condition: This book is in very good condition. The dust jacket shows some edge wear, the worst of which is a one-inch tear at the top of the front cover. Because of this tear, there is some fading from sun exposure of the color of the upper edge of the hard covers and a thinner line of fading along the bottom edge. Otherwise, the hard covers and their titles are bright and clean. Inside, a former owner has left his name and date twice on the front endpaper but that is the only mark I found in the book. The interior pages are bright white and clean throughout. Both hinges are intact, and the binding is tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.

Hardcover. Zustand: Good. Presumed First Edition, First printing. xii, 532 pages. List of Casualties; Footnotes. 17 maps and 80 photographic plates. Appendix. Index. Some discoloration and soiling inside boards and flyleaves. Some cover wear and soiling. Prepared from Official Sources. Walter Karig (November 13, 1888 - September 30, 1956) was a prolific author, who served as a US naval captain. Karig wrote a number of works on Allied naval operations during World War II. He also wrote scripts for the television series Victory at Sea. Besides his works on naval history, Karig was a novelist, publishing under his own name, and a journalist. During World War I he served in the French Foreign Legion and Free Polish Legion, completing his service in the latter as Captain of Infantry. He was appointed Lieutenant Commander in the US Naval Reserve in September 1942, and subsequently attained the tank of Captain on 15 January 1946. In October 1943 he assumed duty as Officer in Charge of the Navy Narrative History Project, and two years later became Assistant Director of Public Relations. A brilliant writer and editor, he applied his fine talents and knowledge of the techniques of publishing to the production of hundreds of books and more than one thousand major magazine articles concerning the Navy at war. Exercising his exceptional ability as a writer and historian, he rendered invaluable assistance in the organization and implementation of a television series, Victory at Sea, and became technical director and Naval Officer in Charge of the series which portrays in authentic motion pictures the Navy's role in WWII, based on Battle Report and other source material. Here is the story of the war as it looked and felt to the men who fought it on the sea, over the sea, under the sea and on the beaches. It is compiled from and as often as possible told in the words of the seamen and admirals, marine privates and officers, Regulars and Reserves, as related by them while the smoke of battle was still bitter in their nostrils, their bandages still wet, their elations at peaks and their woes at nadir. In this volume the topics cover include:: Rabaul, Green Island, Operation Cherry Tree, Truk, Biak, Marianas' Turkey Shoot, Admiral Halsey, Surigao Strait, and the retaking of the Philippines.
