Index. Grape cultivation is one of the most lucrative farming in India. It is grown in Maharashtra Karnataka Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. India produces approximately 9 lakh tonnes of fresh grape annually from an area of 34 000 ha. In the world scenario of grape experts India's share about 12 000 tonnes per year accounting for 1.33 per cent of the total production. Grapes are grown in tropical regions of India and research goes on National Research Center Pune and Indian Institute of Horticulture Research Bangalore. India has the distinction of grape harvesting at such a time when no grapes are harvested any where in the world by virtue of double pruning.
