PCM is a major annual international conference organized as a forum for the dissemination of state-of-the-art technological advances and research results in the fields of theoretical, experimental, and applied multimedia analysis and processing. This copy of Turncoat brings together two pilots and second world war heroes who both had remarkable escapes after being shot down. Air Commodore Sir Archibald Little Winskill and Air Marshal Sir Denis Crowley-Milling. This is Crowley-Milling's copy with his printed name and address in Fakenham to the front free end paper, the address is crossed out and his new address (Henley-on-Thames) written in, presumably, in his hand. Enclosed is a typed letter to Denis from Winskill who had borrowed the book from Crowley-Milling and SIGNED 'Archie'. He has also indicated on the letter the pages in the book relevant to his story, both men appear in the index. Also enclosed are two flown covers, each one SIGNED Sir 'Archibald Little Winskill' and Air Marshal Sir 'Denis Crowley-Milling', with information cards inside each. Quarto 10½'' x 7''. 7 [of 8] volumes with volume VII missing. This is the edition De Luxe limited to 500 copies of which this set is not numbered. Each volume has a double page colour frontispiece of an H. A. Ogden scene from the civil war. They are all illustrated with both paper guarded black & white drawings, maps, glossy plates and occasional full colour plates. The whole set is in Fine condition having probably never been opened or appreciated. Contains [xxxii] 370; [x] 346 printed pages of text with 78 plates, 16 illustrations and plans in the text and 2 large folding maps coloured in outline, one with a repaired tear to the reverse. The Dover Patrol was a Royal Navy command of the First World War, notable for its involvement in the Zeebrugge Raid on 22 April 1918, it formed a discrete unit of the Royal Navy based at Dover and Dunkirk for the duration of the First World War. Its primary task was to prevent enemy German shipping, chiefly submarines, from entering the English Channel en route to the Atlantic Ocean, thereby obliging the German Navy to travel via the much longer route around Scotland which was itself covered by the Northern Patrol. Very Good condition books in scarce Good condition dust wrappers with water mark to the bottom spine of volume I, and the fore edges of both volumes, small chips to the spine ends and corners, price clipped.
