Hardcover. Zustand: Fine. Abnutzung / Risse - leicht. Op de Achterpagina van NRC Handelsblad schreef Hugo Brandt Corstius zeven maanden lang wekelijks een column onder het pseudoniem Peter Malenkov. Deze Rus is het beu om in Moskou in lange rijen te wachten. Daarom is hij naar Amsterdam gekomen. Zonder scrupules maakt hij gebruik van de Nederlandse gewoontes en wetten. In dat opzicht voldoet hij verrassend goed aan het beeld van de calculerende burger. Hoewel kenners enkele foutjes hebben ontdekt in Malenkows kennis van de Russische maatschappij, wordt Brandt Corstius geprezen voor zijn (intuïtieve) kennis over de naar het Westen gevluchte illegale Russen. Zijn opportunisme doet denken aan een romanfiguur van Tsjechow of Toergenjew, hij is schaafloper, sluit schijnhuwelijken, licht vrienden op en gaat mensen die hem niets te bieden hebben uit de weg. Kortom Malenkow brengt het echte kapitalisme in praktijk. Hij verkoopt zijn columns aan drie uitgevers en keert met het geld terug naar Moskou.
