Original red cloth titled in black to spine and front 13 x 19cm. xiii + 173 + (4)pp publisher's advertisements including a one page ad for Sandes' other work "In Kut & Captivity with the 6th Indian Division" + 7 b/w photo illustrations on gloss…y paper including frontispiece, all present as called for. Covers very good with dulling to spine, pale water staining to fore-edges and bumping to extremities. Binding secure. Endpapers tanned. Interiors good with water staining that has affected the top and fore-edges of several leaves including frontis, some foxing and spotting. Lacking dust jacket. Reasonably scarce - traced to 20 locations (18 on OCLC, 6 on Copac, and the United Service Institution of India). In the author's words, this is not an account of war, but rather "a collection of tales of adventure, intended to describe the strange people of a strange land - the Turks of Anatolia - with a few remarks on other nationalities found in Turkey". Sandes served for over two years during the Great War, describes his impressions of Baghdad, Aleppo and Mosul, and he got to see parts of Anatolia "usually veiled from the world" whilst a Prisoner of War (Preface).
