The period of investigation was divided into three parts of roughly equal length spent in different parts of Buganda Province. In each of these districts I lived in native villages, my first three months being spent in a rest-house lent me by the C.M.S., on the site of one of their early mission stations, and the other periods in huts built for me by the natives.
