Large folio book (ca. 52 x 38 cm - extremly wide margins, probably uncut), lviii leaves with illus., lix-lxx p., 163, [1] pages, no binding, the original marbled endpapers present, these and the blank first/last page with tears, the last two text pages with dog ear (wide outside printed area), one page with a dusty edge, otherwise the bookblock in very good condition, all leaves firmly bound together, the 58 illustrations in excellent spotles condition. Reproduction of the Ambrosian Ilias, the oldest illustrated manuscript of classic authors thus far known--is in its present state represented only by 58 colored miniatures (on 52 loose leaves cut from the original volume) with portions of the text written in uncial characters upon the reverse sides. In this edition the miniatures, engraved by Francesco Emanuele Scotto, are reproduced on 58 plates, with descriptive letterpress in Latin, and the corresponding portion of the Ilias (compare Getty Library catalogue, accession no. 84-B4514). 1st edition and only complete edition as such.
