For many years Horne lived with the writer Mary Gillies, sharing houses with her sister, the artist Margaret Gillies and her partner, the physician and reformer Thomas Southwood Smith. He decided to emigrate to Australia, where he became a member of the Yorick Club; rances Margaret (Madge) Fox was born June 23, 1870 in South Farmington, Massachusetts. Frances' childhood was difficult; there were reports of beatings and other mistreatment. The course of Frances's life changed when she met the Joslyns, a family from Bay City, Michigan. Frances eventually moved to Bay City to live with the Joslyn family. Frances began to write down her stories and submit them for publication. In 1901 Frances published her first book for children, Farmer Brown and the Birds.; James Henry Daugherty (June 1, 1889 - February 21, 1974) was an American modernist painter, muralist, children's book author and illustrator. born in Asheville, North Carolina. He later lived in Indiana, Ohio, and at the age of 9 he moved to Washington, D.C., where he studied at the Corcoran School of Art. Later, he went to London and studied under Frank Brangwyn. During World War I, he was commissioned to produce propaganda posters for various US Government agencies. Daugherty wrote and illustrated several children's books during his career, and his book Daniel Boone won the Newbery Medal.
