In den WarenkorbLeather. Zustand: Very Good. Second Edition. 1771. Second edition, corrected. viii, 268pp. Henry Mackenzie (1745-1831) was a Scottish lawyer, novelist and writer. The Man of Feeling is his best-known work, first published anonymously in 1771. The novel presents a series of moral vignettes which the naïve protagonist Harley eithe…r observes, is told about, or participates in. The present second, corrected edition, was also issued anonymously. The book is bound in contemporary full leather boards with gold titling on a leather label and five raised bands on the spine. The case of the book is in very good condition with some expected scuffing and staining to the leather on the boards. A small piece of leather is missing from the front board and a larger piece near the top spine corner of the rear board. The corners are lightly bumped with a small piece of leather missing from the tip of the top rear corner and about 1/8" is missing from the top of the spine. The contents are tight and clean apart from a few expected small marks and stains from finger smudges, etc., and some soiling to the preliminary and first few pages. There is a small hole in the top margin of page 1 and 'Robertson Library' has been handwritten near the middle of the title-page. The front and rear free endpapers have been removed and the front fixed endpaper is soiled with a bookplate and remains of the top edge of a removed label.
