This anthology features a series of narrations that reflect the culture and historical events of the Scottish Borders, exploring themes of love, family, conflict, and community against the backdrop of the region's dramatic landscapes. With titles such as: The Vacant Chair, Recollections of Ferguson, The Professor's Tales, The Countess of Wistonbury, and Midside Maggy, amongst many others. Written by John Mackay Wilson, a Scottish writer and editor of the Berwick Advertiser. Whilst editor, Wilson began publishing local stories and their popularity led to him extending them into a weekly broadsheet. Although he died within a year, the Tales ran to over three hundred editions, offering almost five hundred short tales and serials with his obituary published in issue forty-nine. Revised by Alexander Leighton, a Scottish writer and editor, best known for this work. Dated from the University of Glasgow Library. Bound in half calf with marbled boards. Externally, smart with light rubbing to the extremities and the odd small mark to the boards. Minor loss to the head of the spine of volumes X and XI. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with light scattered spotting, predominantly to the fore-edge. The contents pages of each individual volume are bound at the front.
