Written by John Mackay Wilson, a Scottish writer and editor of the Berwick Advertiser. Whilst editor, Wilson began publishing local stories and their popularity led to him extending them into a weekly broadsheet. Although he died within a year, the Tales ran to over three hundred editions, offering almost five hundred short tales and serials with his obituary published in issue forty-nine.
