Partially completed colour painting on cream cotton cloth, the face and small portion of the upper section of his cap are finished, the remaining portrait is in pencil only, 43 x 44cm. Lightly creased from folding, light staining, a few marks but overall in good condition. In this portrait of General Douglas MacArthur, he is depicted wearing a military cap with pencil outlined badge, gazing into the distance with a look of determination. The work bears no title or signature, but the facial features unmistakably resemble those of the General. Although he is not shown with his iconic corn cob pipe, the likeness to Douglas MacArthur is clear and compelling.

Cloth. Zustand: Very good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: very good. First edition of MacArthur: His Rendezvous with History by Major General Courtney Whitney, signed by Gen. Douglas MacArthur, Jean MacArthur, Courtney Whitney, their son, Arthur MacArthur IV, and nanny, "Ah Cheu." (illustrator). First Edition, First Printing. Octavo, xi, [1], 547pp, xiii. Rust orange cloth, spine in blue, title stamped in gilt on spine and blind stamped on cover. Top edge dyed red. Stated "First Edition" on copyright page. Complete with three maps. Light wear to cloth boards, foxing to endpapers. In the publisher's first state dust jacket, $6.75 retail price on front flap, light sunning to spine, shallow chipping and wear along edges, an overall very good example. A unique collection of signatures including General Douglas MacArthur, Jean MacArthur, Major Gen. Courtney Whitney, Arthur MacArthur IV (MacArthur's son), and their beloved Chinese nanny, Loh Chui ("Ah Cheu"). Ah Cheu, whose legal name was Loh Chui, was the Cantonese nanny who helped raise Arthur MacArthur IV (MacArthur's only child), and accompanied them during the March 1942 escape from Corregidor-a decision he later defended on the grounds that she had been with his son "since Arthur's birth" and would likely have been killed if left behind. She is also dramatized on screen as "Ah Cheu" in the 1977 film MacArthur. Signed.

Hardcover. Zustand: Very good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: very good. Signed first edition of Revitalizing A Nation by General Douglas MacArthur. (illustrator). First Edition. Octavo, 96pp, [24pp photographs]. Blue hardcover, title printed on spine and cover. First edition, with no additional printings mentioned on copyright page. Small repaired chip on the spine, no impact to text block. Faint offsetting to endpapers. In publisher's dust jacket, $2.00 retail price on front flap, repaired chip at head of spine, a few short closed tears, bright cover illustrations. Signed by Gen. Douglas MacArthur on the front pastedown. When General MacArthur was relieved from his command in 1951 by President Harry Truman, he returned to the United States as a hero. He addressed a joint session of Congress, where he famously said that "old soldiers never die; they just fade away." But MacArthur had no intention of fading away. He was quickly mentioned as a candidate for the 1952 Republican presidential nomination, but on his speaking tour of the United States, it became apparent that MacArthur was more interested in settling scores with Truman than presenting a positive vision for the future. This book was an attempt to correct that public image, but by the time of its publication, it was too late. He endorsed Robert Taft for president in 1952. Signed.
