Die Bogenränder werden dadurch zwar ungleich, aber das Satzbild steht gerade. Um infolge der ungleichen Ränder ein späteres zu starkes Beschneiden mit der Maschine zu vermeiden, werden die Bogen einzeln, vorne und unten, mit der Pappschere auf ein Mittelmaß rauh beschnitten. Dadurch wird der Druckrand weitestgehend geschont. Als erste und letzte Lage wird dem Buche zum Schutze eine leere Papierlage hinzugefügt, welche mit einem feinen Leinen- oder echten Japanpapierfalz versehen ist. Die Deckel werden in einem tiefen Falz angesetzt, mit den Bünden nach außen. Ein Herausreißen aus der Decke ist somit nur unter Zuhilfenahme von Werkzeug möglich. Die vorliegende Ausgabe folgt der zweiten veränderten Ausgabe (hier 150 Briefe). Beigefügt wurde dafür hier das Werk "Le Temple de Gnide" von Montesquieu, welches 1725 erstmals erschienen war. Von editorischer Bedeutung ist auch noch die 1754 in Köln bei Marteau erschienen Ausgabe, da dies die letzte zu Lebzeiten von Montequieu erschienen Ausgabe war und eine Einleitung von ihm mit dem Titel "Quelques reflexions sur les lettres persanes" enthielt. Die vorliegende Ausgabe mit dem Druckvermerk "Cologne MDCCLIII" scheint ein unberechtigter Raubdruck zu sein und der Druckvermerk könnte fingiert sein. - Durchgehend etw. fleckig und gebräunt.
