A. Titmarsh, the pseudonym of William Makepeace Thackeray. This particular work is a satirical attack on the Grand Tours, in which upper-class young gentleman would travel around Europe for 'cultural immersion'.William Makepeace Thackeray (1811-1863) was a British novelist, author, and illustrator, best known for satirical works such as 'Vanity Fair', as well as 'The Luck of Barry Lyndon'.With twelve pages of publisher's adverts to rear of text.Collated, complete. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, very smart. Light wear to the extremities and the spine, with fading to the spine and the spine region of boards. A few marks to boards. Illustrated bookplate to front pastedown with residue left from another owner's sticker to the bottom of paste down. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean throughout, with light age-toning to margins of text. Half title page and frontispiece has almost fully detached from binding. Very Good.
