Sie beginnt und endet dabei mit einem dezidierten Bruch mit dem Überkommenen: Bereits um 1914 propagierte eine junge britische Künstlergruppe, die Vortizisten, mit ihrem Magazin »Blast!« einen Stil, der Einflüsse des französischen Kubismus und des italienischen Futurismus zu einer eigenständigen britischen Moderne verschmolz. Einzelgänger wie Henry Moore und Francis Bacon sind wiederum ohne die britischen Primitivisten und Surrealisten der zwanziger und dreißiger Jahre undenkbar. Die spezielle britische Ausprägung der Pop Art nahm ihren Anfang in den legendären Ausstellungen der Independent Group der fünfziger Jahre. In den achtziger Jahren entstand die New British Sculpture mit bedeutenden Vertretern wie Tony Cragg oder Antony Gormley.

Pages are bright and generally clean, with the faint odd spot to first and final leaves. Heavier spotting to extremities of Spirit leaves, heaviest to hinge of half-title, and none to Bloomsbury.
