Hardcover. Zustand: Fair. iv, 416 p. 23 cm. Half leather with marbled boards. From our As Is shelf. Spine missing, boards detached, corners worn. Tear in a front endpaper. A little foxing to first pages. Light pink stain on fore-edge. Text block is mostly clean and neat, in need of new binding. Henrietta Knight, Lady Luxborough, separated from her husband due to a scandal, found plenty of time to take part in a literary society which included Shenstone as well as others. He preserved the letters she wrote between 1739 and 1756 and published them in this volume. The result is a charming portrayal of rural upper class life in this time period.
