Produced by John Wilson and Son's University Press in Cambridge, Massachusetts and printed on French-folded pages joined in tandem, now divided. Rubáiyát over unnumbered pages carrying the 101 quatrains of Edward FitzGerald's version enriched with lovely illustrations around the quatrains by Florence Lundborg, all of the other leaves have an elaborate border. Ink name dated 1944 to the second front end sheet, light rubbing to the corners and in Very Good clean condition. Member of the P.B.F.A. Rubáiyát of Omar Khayyám.

Corners a bit rubbed, the first five French folds opened, otherwise a fine copy, extremely clean and…fresh internally, and with few signs of use to the binding. With the text wrapped in Florence Lundborg's romantic, flowing illustrations, this is a particularly attractive edition of FitzGerald's lush and lilting translation of the celebrated 11th century classic collection of evocative short verses. A work that appealed strongly to Victorian sensibilities, the "Rubáiyát," first printed anonymously in 1859, became immensely popular and went through a great many editions. American artist Lundborg (1871-1949) studied under Whistler and Arthur Mathews, and was known for her paintings, murals, and book illustrations. Her borders here, which surround the poetry with graceful figures and textured linework, are reminiscent of the work of Aubrey Beardsley.
