Hardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. Oblong quarto. String-tied flexible brown leather over paper boards, stamped with a small illustration of a field and the words "memory book" in gilt on front wrap. A collection of 238 photos, both sepia toned and black and white with a few in color, affixed to stiff black paper, some captioned. Various sizes including 4" x 3.25"; 2" x 3"; 3.5" x 5"; 3.5" x 6"; 7" x 9", and a few others. All images are clear with a few missing. Very good or better with rubbing and tiny tears on the album edges. The album follows Virginia Lund, of Geneva, Illinois, and her family and friends from her grade school years in the 1920s until the 1950s. Beginning in the mid-1920s at the Pennsylvania summer Camp Nawakwa the album brings together about 50 photos of girls performing in Marie Antoinette-era "fancy dress," as well as various Native American costumes. The album chronicles various family moments including graduations, shots of various relatives posing around the family home in Geneva, and vacations including a 1929 trip to Pike's Peak, Colorado and a 1947 trip to Daytona Beach with "Bill" posing in front of "Ski Ball Alley" on the boardwalk. Also included are pictures of "College Days at U of I," presumably University of Illinois as well as 14 pictures of a younger Bill while stationed in the Gilbert Islands with the U.S. Army in the mid-1940s. A prosaic but interesting and extensive album of pleasing vernacular photos depicting the lives of a suburban family through three decades.
