The Stampien is both an age of the geological timescale and a stage in the stratigraphic column. With thick white sands, the Fontainebleau sandstone was a major source of building material the nineteenth and twentieth century in Ile-de-France. Therefore, one can say the rocks of the Stampian have largely influenced landscapes and urban life in the Paris Basin. The great richness and variety of fossils, especially the enormous number of bivalves and gastropods have led to a worthwhile research up to date. The results of this scientific work are documented in this volume.

We record 30 species of Tonnoidea from the Upper Oligocene of Aquitaine (Adour Basin). These comprise taxa in the families Cassidae (11 species), Tonnidae (1 species), Laubierinidae (1 species), Charoniidae (1 species), Bursidae (3 species), Cymatiidae (9 species), Personidae (1 species), and Ficidae (3 species). Three new species are proposed, one in Cassidae (Semicassis poustagnacensis n. sp.) and two in Cymatiidae (Linatella antecessor n. sp., Gyrineum cahuzaci n. sp.). Twelve species are directly related to known species from the Lower Miocene of Aquitaine and 7 species are also known from the Lower Oligocene. Twelve species are reported for the first time in these deposits. Five species could not be named or are identified as c.f. . We identified six species species, including a new Rupelian species (Cassis vancuycki n. sp.) in a review of the Oligocene and Miocene Cassis of Aquitaine. Neotype designation is made for Semicassis miodiadema Sacco, 1908. Lectotype designations are made for Cassis mamillaris Grateloup, 1827, Triton crassum Grateloup, 1845, Triton ventricosum Grateloup, 1833 and Ranella subrania d Orbigny, 1852. Two new combinations are also made. New taxa: Semicassis poustagnacensis n. sp., Linatella antecessor n. sp., Gyrineum cahuzaci n. sp. 100 pp., 14 figs, 1 tab., 28 b/w plates, br. 4 [in French].…

The Upper Oligocene (Chattian) of the Adour basin contains 69 species of the families Volutidae (16 species), Volutomitridae (8 species), Marginellidae (5 species), Cystiscidae (6 species) and Cancellariidae (34 species). Among them, 28 new species are described (5 Volutidae, 1 Marginellidae, 4 Cystiscidae and 18 Cancellariidae) and 4 are left in open nomenclature. At least 46 species are new occurrences. Three species of Rupelian Volutidae and two new Miocene species (Volutidae, Cancellariidae) are also described. A new occurrence of Marginellidae [Eratoidea cf. eratoformis (Hoernes & Auinger, 1880)] is reported in the lower Miocene. The observations of the sculpture (sutural ramp), the morphology of the protoconch and the residual color patterns have shown that Athleta ficulina is a complex that includes at least 8 species and that Voluta ficulina Lamarck, 1811 and Voluta rarispina Lamarck, 1811 are synonymous. In order to stabilize the nomenclature, the name Voluta ficulina is retained and a Neotype is designated. In the Aquitaine Basin, 4 species of Athleta are identified in the Upper Oligocene and 2 species in the Lower Miocene. In the other Miocene deposits of Europe (and Turkey), 3-4 species are present, including probably 2 new Middle Miocene species from Turkey which are generally identified under the names Athleta ficulina (Lamarck, 1811) or Athleta rarispina (Lamarck, 1811). A new group of Volutidae (Athletinae) limited to the upper Oligocene is identified. As no existing name applies to this clade, a new subgeneric name is created here: Oligoathleta, n. su. …

The site of Lariey (Geological Nature Reserve of Saucats-La-Br?de), the main outcrop of the Aquitanian Stratotype, has yielded 314 species of gastropods, 91% of which have been named. 13 species are described as new. They are included in the families Litiopidae, Caecidae, Stenothyridae, Naticidae, Epitoniidae, Cornirostridae, Hyalogyrinidae (one species in each family), Cerithiopsidae (3 species) et Pyramidellidae (3 species). Compared to the last exhaustive revision of the molluscs of the Lower Miocene (Cossmann & Peyrot), about 60% of the species are recorded for the first time in the site. 190 pp., 19 figs, 37 pls, 1 tab. br. 4. …

Les taxa g?n?riques Cryptocypraea Meyer, 2003 et Palmulacypraea Meyer, 2003 sont respectivement plac?s en synonymie de Paulonaria Schilder, 1939 et de Notadusta Schilder, 1935. 75 new species of Cypraeidae and Ovulidae are described from the Rupelian (Lower Oligocene of Aquitaine basin), the Chattian (Upper Oligocene of Aquitaine basin), the Aquitanian and Burdigalian (Lower Miocene of Aquitaine basin), the Langhian/Serravalian (Middle Miocene of Turaine) and the Messinian (Uppemost Miocene of Anjou). Four new generic names are intrroduced: Ransonia, Plaziatia, Subepona et Praerosaria. The genera Proadusta and Zonaria are reviewed, and the subgenus Prozonarina is elevated to the generic level. The 68 new species of Cypraeidae are: Cypraeorbis (2 species), Lyncina (9 species), Cypraea (1 species), Mauritia (s.s.) (1 species), Luria (Tessellata) (5 species), Proadusta (6 species), Ransonia (11 species), Zonarina (2 species), Schilderia (8 species), Prozonarina (5 species), Plaziatia (5 species), Zonaria (1 species), Subepona (1 species), Praerosaria (10 species), Nucleolaria (1 species) ; the 7 species of Ovulidae are: Simnia (3 species), Phenacocolva (2 species), Jenneria (s.s.) (1 species) et Cypraeopsis (s.s.) (1 speciec). The earliest occurences of the genera Lyncina, Mauritia, Luria (Tesselata), Ransonia, Plaziatia, Schilderia, Nucleolaria, Phenacovolva, Jenneria (s.s.) and Cypraeopsis (s.s.) are moved back to the Upper Oligocene. The first species of the genera Cypraea and Luria (s.s.) are recorded in the Lower Miocene, and the oldest Zonaria are from the middle Miocene. Among the numerous new occurences in the Chattian of the Adour Basin we particulary note the occurences of genera living in coral reef environment (Lyncina, Mauritia, Pustularia s.l., Nucleolaria). This study confirms global faunal observations of Lozouet (1997): the main faunal turn-over occured durring the Upper Oligocene. In addition, a neotype is designated for Cypraea andegavensis Defrance (Messinian of Anjou), and a new name is introduced (Luria (Tessellata) dockeryi) for Talparia (s.s.) dominicensis sensu Dolin, 1991b [non Gabb, 1873]. At last, the genera Cryptocypraea Meyer, 2003 and. …
