Hardcover. Zustand: GOOD. First Edition. First Edition Thus, Lowe's new critical Greek text with english translation on diglot facing pages. 12mo, red cloth, gilt spine lettering. xi, [1], 195pp. B/W frontispiece portrait of the statue of Pan and Daphnis at the Mueso delie Terme in Rome. Tips a bit worn, spine a bit toned, sound otherwise. Annotated with learned and comments in a fine contemporary hand, with extensive notes to the rear blanks. 'Despite its perennial popularity and the admiration of no less an authority than Goethe, Daphnis and Chloe was largely ignored by classical scholars, being considered trivial and/or pornographic, until the 1960s, when the ancient novel began to be viewed as a worthwhile object of study.' (Introduction to the Loeb Classical Library edition).…
