This follows the life and loves of a young aristocrat named Guilderoy, his journey from his privileged upbringing in England, through his travels across Europe and his involvement in a complicated love triangle. Oscar Wilde's review commented "Guilderoy, with all its faults, which are great, and its absurdities, which are greater, is a book to be read" and he also quoted several epigrams from it - among them "Moralists say that a soul should resist passion.
