With 4 illustrations on plain paper.The cloth shows moderate edgewear, light soil, and has a faint numeral "16" inked to the spine. The front free endpaper has a 1918 gift inscription; the rear pastedown has a homemade card pocket. Hinges solid; the spine has a slight slant. PLEASE NOTE; both Harry Hudson's original bibliography and the Mattson & Davis update indicate that there was a board version of volume 1.This was probably to an attempt to follow non-mandatory government regulations for conservation of paper during WWI. Volume 2. this book, has never been seen in anything but cloth. Uncommon title. Mattson & Davis #61400.
