Zustand: Fine. in-folio (460x290 mm), pp. (4), 4, (10), 8, (8), 4, (48); 35 tavole. Ricca legatura in marocchino rosso dell'epoca con ricca doratura: una larga bordura neoclassica e una grande losanga centrale, dorso con titolo e 6 scomparti decorati in oro. Con 35 tavole incise all'acquatinta, stupendamente dipinte a mano, numerate rispetto alla prima edizione. Seconda edizione, assai più rara di quella del 1811, di questa famosa stupenda serie di incisioni in rame all'acquatinta dai disegni dei Lory e da loro colorate presso l'editore. La pubblicazione intendeva  promuovere la nuova strada attraverso il Sempione, tra il Lago Lemano e il Lago Maggiore, aperta poco tempo prima. Gli artisti si recarono sul posto non appena la strada fu agibile per disegnare dal vero."d'une importance capitale pour l'illustration topographique du Valais" (Gattlen). Robinson oder der schiffbrüchige Schweizer Prediger" und publizierte ihn zwischen 1812 und 1827. 1815 erschienen seine "Idyllen, Volkssagen, Legenden und Erzählungen aus der Schweiz", 1816-17 seine zweibändige "Reise ins Berner Oberland", die den Ruf der Schweiz als Reiseland förderte. Von W. stammt der Text zur früheren Schweizer Nationalhymne "Rufst du mein Vaterland" (1811). Mit Rudolf Emanuel Stierlin gab er u.a. die Berner Chroniken von Valerius Anshelm, Konrad Justinger und Benedikt Tschachtlan heraus. Mitglied der Schweiz. und Mitstifter der Bern.
