Lore was a lawyer and politician who served as Delaware's attorney general from 1869-1874 and sat on the Delaware Supreme Court from 1893-1909. He also served two terms as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives and was the inaugural president of the board of trustees of Delaware State University (then the Delaware College for Colored Students).
