Binding tight and solid. The book focuses on the naval battles that occurred at Narvik, Norway, on April 10th and 13th, 1940, between German and British forces. Narvik is the ice-free far northern port from which Swedish iron ore was exported -- I believe year-round -- but principally when the Baltic was ice-bound during the winter months. That high-grade ore was vitally important to the German war economy and a tempting target for British interdiction. Germany had invaded Denmark and Norway on April 9th, 1940. This caught the British, the world's leading naval power at that time, unprepared though they had intelligence about heightened German activity and were misled by numerous faulty assumptions about German intentions and capabilities. The invasion of the Low Countries and France did not start until May 10th and for a brief few months Britain and France contested German control of central and northern Norway. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 0 pages.

Most expressed favourable attitudes to British Jews though a minority were hostile. The opinions should be understood in the context of wartime Jewish/non-Jewish relations in the war such as those revealed in Tony Kushner's study of the "persistence of prejudice" on the wartime Home Front. 372 pages. Avery Radford worked for me as my Private Secretary when I was Member for Hull, from 1919 to 1921. He performed his duties most efficiently, was entirely reliable and trustworthy, an a great help to me in my political work. | He left me to take up a post in the Ministry of Pensions as an administrative officer, and I consider him worthy to fill any position of trust.' Strabolgi had succeeded to the title on his father's death in 1934. He served as opposition chief whip in the House of Lords from 1938 to 1942.
