In den WarenkorbLeather. Zustand: Very Good. None (illustrator). A very scarce set of works from the late 18th century featuring Samuel Johnson's 'The Rambler' and George Lyttleton's 'Letters From A Persian In England, To His Friend'. Both of these works are part of the 'Moore's British Classics' series, and are bound Two volumes in one. 'The Rambler' is complete in four volumes. With an additional volume to the rear of the volume entitled, 'Letters From A Persian In England, To His Friend'. 'The Rambler' is continuously paginated, with a separate pagination for 'Letters From a Persian'. 'The Rambler' was a periodical by Samuel Johnson. This publication primarily featured essays and works of non-fiction, with a total of 208 articles published across the set. Samuel Johnson was a poet, essayist, literary critic and lexicographer. Born in 1709, Johnson was a committed Tory, and a devout Anglican. 'Letters From A Persian In England, To His Friend At Ispahan' is a series of letter written by the British statesman, George Lyttleton. As well as a recognised writer, George Lyttleton is warmly remembered as an important patron of the arts. With the previous owners ink inscription to the title page of 'The Rambler' that reads 'Anna Sealy December 10th 1823. Bailey Field'. A fascinating collection of letter and articles by two notable figures of the 18th century. In a full calf binding. A large crack to the front joint, and a strained front hinge having resulted in the front board at risk of becoming detached. Crack to the rear joint, to the head. Spots to the front and rear endpapers. Internally firmly bound. Pages are generally clean. Very Good. book.
