Mit gedruckter Widmung an den englischen Mediziner Johannes Freind (1675-1728).- Von Jodocus Lommius (Joost van Lom, etwa 1500 - 1564), studierte in Paris Medizin, wo er bei Fernel lernte und dessen Freundschaft er auch erwarb. Er habilitierte sich in Tournai, wo er 1557 zum Stadtarzt ernannt wurde. Er ging dann aber 1560 weiter nach Brüssel und wurde Leibarzt von Philipp II. Sein letztes Lebenszeichen stammt aus dem September 1562.Von ihm wurde gesagt, dass kein anderer Arzt seines Jahrhunderts die Kenntnis der Krankheiten mehr gefördert habe als er. Seine Werke galten nach Sprache und Inhalt als klassisch und wurden "wegen ihres durchaus hippokratischen Charakters noch bis in die Mitte des 18. Jahrh. gelesen" (Haeser II, 141).- Hirsch/Hüb.
