Music Academy label on front pastedown, with note on fingering glued on to rear pastedown; front free end paper creased. Board corners worn; leather of spine very worn. Illegible signature by Logier's name on title page; owner's name & date on title label on front board (date not quite legible). Some browning to pages.

Folio (35 x 26cm). 31 pages. Disbound, outer pages slightly dusty and stained, a few pages chipped at lower outer margin, lower margin to page 7/8 torn, affecting music, all pages creased. Title page initialled by Logier. Music examples throughout.

A handwritten note is pasted to "FFEP". It reads "This is an original English edition of Mr J.B. Logier's famous work. It contains all the matter of importance as taught by the author in his world-wide schools. Many important remarks rules and examples of interest are altogether omitted from the Modern edition, while errors of notation are too frequently found in the published examples, a fault however for which the present volume is also not free. The excellent collection of "Themes" for students use, the "Manual" and Appendix thereto are entirely absent from the edition now extant, which therefore can scarcely be said to fairly represent the Logerian method, while it is apt to create a wrong impression on those who have been partly prejudiced by false statements, caused by jealousy against Logier's easy and progressive plan" Signed David Cope, Professor of Music, Melbourne & Sydney, Australia. Seltene Erstausgabe des grundlegenden Werkes zur Harmonielehre, das im gleichen Jahr auch in Englisch und Französisch erschienen ist. Logier formuliert in seinem Hauptwerk, das sein Bruder verlegte, die Prinzipien seiner neuen Lehre. Er widmete sein Lehrbuch Friedrich Wilhelm III. von Preußen, da dieser sich sehr für seine neue Lehrmethode interessiert hatte. Logier hatte die Methode des gemeinsamen Klavierunterrichtes, das Unisonospiel auf mehreren Klavieren begonnen. Das Verfahren erregte allgemeines Aufsehen und fand große Anerkennung. Er entwickelte daraus einen Gruppenunterricht, der vielfach heute noch nach seinen Prinzipien praktiziert wird. Auf Veranlassung Zelters lud ihn die preußische Regierung nach Berlin ein, um dort zu unterrichten und sein System in Preußen bekannt zu machen.
