Die vom Kunstler aufgezeichneten Gesprache sind eindringliche Dokumente einer letzten Generation von Zeitzeugen, die sich gegen das NS-Regime gestellt haben und deren unmittelbare Erinnerungen bald verloren sein werden. Die Rauminstallation wurde an vielen geschichtstrachtigen Ort in Osterreich gezeigt: im Palais Epstein (Osterreichischen Parlament, Anfang 2008), in der Gedenkstatte fur Opfer der NS-Justiz im Landesgericht Wien (April 2008), im Museum Moderner Kunst Karnten (MMKK) (Juni/November 2008), im Kulturhaus St. Primus/Kulturni dom Sentprimoz (Juni/Juli 2008), im Museum Gedenkstatte Persmanhof/Muzej pri Persmanu (Juli/Oktober 2008) sowie in der Aula der Universitat Wien (Oktober/November 2010) und im Pavelhaus/Pavolva hisa in Laafeld/Potrna bei Bad Radkersburg (Dezember 2010 bis Februar 2011). Das Buch enthalt Beitrage von Aleida Assmann, Brigitte Bailer-Galanda, Wolfgang Neugebauer und Roland Schony sowie die Biografien der zwolf Zeitzeuginnen und Zeitzeugen der Videoinstallation, deren Interviews auf der beigelegten Video-DVD dokumentiert sind.

Reflecting Oil is the result of different artistic research processes which entailed practical handling and holistic observation of the raw substance in the context of petroculture. This mode of research focusing on sensory perceptionsuch as the differentiation of colors and smells, etc., and aesthetic and symbolic interpretationprovided findings on the levels of multi-sensory and practical knowledge. Drawing on a collaboration between art and science, such interdisciplinary investigations into crude oil as the basis of our petromodernity can be vital for the necessary shift towards sustainable energy cultures.
